LA FERIA DE SAN LUCAS

FAIR
The origins of this festivity took place in the fifteenth century, when the king of Castile granted to the city to celebrate a cattle fair in August. That fair lasted five days.
For several centuries happened in this way until the year 1805, year that suffered  an epidemic of plague.
Then the fair was moved to October, to coincide with the feast of St. Luke in honor of a very popular person who was Constable in Jaen in the fifteenth century: Don Miguel Lucas de Iranzo.
At first the cattle stood in the squares and main streets, but this caused much discomfort. Then the cattle market moved to the outskirts of the city, in the Ejido of Bethlehem.
At present, our school is in this neighborhood.
In 1833, the authorities decided that in addition to buying and selling livestock, were also celebrations.
Today, Jaén fair is celebrated in a place called "The Vestida". This is a great site consists of several platforms that are connected by a path.
Down the road is fair Municipal Unit, which is celebrated concerts, tastings of popular recipes and many other events.
At the end of the place is a large open area where you place the funfair, the Ferris wheel, roller coaster, bumper cars ...
During the fair there are very important activities: Parade, Medieval Market, Bullfights, folk dances, concerts, circus, children's theater, painting competitions, exhibitions, workshops ...
